Jesus said: "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him."

John Chapter 7 verses 37-38

Why do we have a weird ‘web’ address?

Because the full name of our church is very long - and not all that easy to spell!  Also because deep-river.co.uk is fairly easy to remember!  Have you heard the deep tones of the old ‘spiritual’ “Deep River”? That simple but powerful song urges Christians to press onwards to victory as followers of Jesus Christ, even through rivers of danger and testing. That can only be done as God’s grace sweeps us along: carried by a River of Grace.

The final pages of the Bible picture a future world without any death or sorrow, a future universe at complete ease because it will please God perfectly.  In that picture we see people just like us—meeting their God as a welcome friend standing beside a River of Life.  That imagery is fantastic. It is firmly positive about the future. Christianity has a unique hope. But that picture is borrowed straight out of the inspired imagination of a man of God from long ago. A man called Ezekiel.

Ezekiel lived in a world very much like ours today, a world filled with pain, exile and hatred. He lived through times of war, genocide and disappointment.  He also had his eyes opened to see God at work in human history. He saw God’s love in action and God’s plans coming to pass. He looked ahead and saw a deep river of hope and salvation flowing out from Jesus Christ.

Today, in our church, and wherever Christians meet together to listen to God speak in the Bible, the Deep River of truth still brings life and hope. Join us, and drink deeply from the River of Truth and Life.
